Description of the project

The Erasmus Mundus Programme

Erasmus Mundus Action 2 is a cooperation and mobility programme in the field of Higher Education. The European Commission has entrusted the implementation of the Erasmus Mundus Programme to the Education, Culture and Audiovisual Executive Agency (“EACEA”).

All the general information about the Erasmus Mundus Programme and its objectives can be found in http://eacea.ec.europa.eu/erasmus_mundus/

The MUNDUS LINDO Project

MUNDUS LINDO is an Erasmus Mundus Action 2 project managed by a Partnership composed of 20 universities (7 European and 13 Latin American), within the framework of the European Call for Proposals Erasmus Mundus Action 2 and financed entirely by the European Commission.

The objective of the MUNDUS LINDO Project is the promotion of Higher Education Cooperation between the EU and the Latin American countries involved in the project: Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Ecuador, Paraguay and Peru, and in coherence with the EU general objective of improvement of the bilateral cooperation in the field of Education.

The most important feature of MUNDUS LINDO is its social commitment. The project focuses on assuring the participation of disadvantaged sectors and vulnerable students.

The specific objectives of MUNDUS LINDO are:

  • To raise LA university quality in terms of teaching and learning capacities and Research excellence.
  • To promote the international cooperation capacity between the EU universities and the HE institutions of the LA countries involved in the project by enhancing the creation or improvement of International Relation Offices and Support Units for research.
  • To raise awareness of the European HE systems in Latin America.
  • To design and implement procedures for academic recognition, for the development of double degrees, PhD cotuteles and sandwich doctorates, which will be used in the project and after the life of the project in the frame of other international mobility programmes.
  • To establish permanent and sustainable relationships among partners and associate members for the development of double degrees, PhD cotuteles, sandwich doctorates and joint research projects within the project and after the life of the project.

Scholarships

There are specific flows for members of partner universities, but also of non-partner universities and students in a particularly vulnerable situation, generally corresponding to one of the three Target Groups defined by the European Commission for the Erasmus Mundus Programme (see Apply – Who can apply?).

The European Commission has also divided the regional lot of Latin America into two different groups of countries (A and B), each of these groups having specific available scholarships. According to the European Commission’s division:
  • Group A: Bolivia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru
  • Group B: Brazil, Chile, Cuba

According to your level of studies and nationality (belonging to group A or group B), you have different scholarships available.
