Wes also studied the health of older adults in Europe using the well-known self-rated health indicator and we carried out a multilevel estimation analysis to find the relationship with a set of variables. We found that the gender gap in health is relevant for the elderly in Southern European countries such as Spain, Portugal, Italy and Greece, while in Central and Easter Europe it was not found.
The gender health gap in said countries is especially wider for the older old.
